Eggs-quisite

The first reaction by a visitor to last weekend’s 24th annual Rockford Egg Art Show and Sale was to tread very carefully.

It wasn’t exactly like walking on eggshells, but close enough as any false move or stumble could wreck some intricate creations on tiny, delicate surfaces.

Fortunately there were no mishaps as dozens of visitors studied and others purchased the work of 24 artists and dealers representing nine different states during the show, which ran Saturday and Sunday at Midway Village Museum.

The are of egg decorating dates back centuries an some of the creations were as tiny — barely larger than a piece of candy — while other as large as six- to eight-inches in height.

Many were masterpieces of creativity, planning and execution — from carefully cut eggshell openings with tiny figures inside to elaborately painted exteriors.
